Meta and Spotify criticize European AI regulations – Vietnam.vn

According to these two CEOs, Europe has “more open source developers than the US” and is well positioned to benefit from the open source AI wave. However, they say Europe’s fragmented regulatory structure with inconsistent enforcement is stifling innovation and making it difficult for developers.

They stressed that the technology industry in Europe is faced with “overlapping regulations and inconsistent guidance” rather than clear rules. A simpler regulatory framework will not only encourage the development of open-source AI, but also support developers and the broader innovation ecosystem in Europe.

The Irish data protection authority in June told Meta not to launch its AI models in Europe for now, after the company was asked to delay plans to use data from Facebook and Instagram. Due to current regulations, Meta will not be able to launch future AI models such as Llama multimodal, a model that can understand images, in Europe.

This means that Europeans will have to use AI “designed for others,” these CEOs said. Spotify also stressed that early investments in AI to create personalized experiences for users contributed to the streaming service’s success.
