Mesut Oezil Removed from Fenerbahce Squad

Mesut Oezil has been removed from the squad Fenerbahce until an undetermined time limit. What is it?

Fenerbahce’s decision to release Ozil was officially announced on Thursday (24/3/2022). The Turkish club have also suspended their central midfielder, Ozan Tufan, from the squad.

“Our Football Team A players Mesut Ozil and Ozan Tufan were removed from the squad according to the decision taken. This has been announced to the public,” said Fenerbahce’s official statement on Twitter.

Fenerbahce did not announce more detailed reasons for its release Mesut Oezil. The Sun claiming this was because Ozil had a fight with interim coach, Ismail Kartal.

Ozil and Tufan are said to be able to play again after Fenerbahce officially appointed a new permanent coach. However, both could also be out for a long time if Fenerbahce do not reverse their decision.

Ozil joined Fenerbahce in January 2021 from Arsenal. The former Real Madrid man left the Emirates Stadium after being no longer included in Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Ozil has played 37 games for Fenerbahce in all competitions. The 33-year-old midfielder recorded 9 goals and 3 assists.

Mesut Oezil last time performing for Fenerbahce on Sunday (20/3) face Konyaspor in the Turkish League continued. He appeared as captain and brought The Yellow Canaries won 2-1.
