Jakarta, CNNI Indonesia —
Lionel Messi had a second chance to win world Cup after going down Argentina qualify for the finals.
Prior to the 2022 World Cup, Messi had appeared in four editions of the World Cup. Out of the four editions, Messi managed to lead Argentina to the World Cup final in the 2014 edition.
But at that time, Argentina lost 0-1 to Germany by a single goal from Mario Goetze. The defeat made Messi cry and he had to bury his dream of taking Argentina to the World Cup.
When Argentina fell in the round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup, many believed that Messi would never again have the chance to lead Argentina to a World Cup victory.
But Messi’s decision to continue wearing the national team shirt, despite having retired several times, has paid off. Having fulfilled his dream of leading Argentina to the Copa America title, Messi now has a second chance to lead the Albiceleste to World Cup victory.
The second chance to appear in the World Cup final is certainly an opportunity that is rarely possessed by any player in this world. Because the World Cup is a four-year tournament plus the strength of the participants is fairly evenly distributed.
But at the age of 35, Messi is able to make it happen. Messi also remains the soul of the Argentine game even though he is old.
En route to taking Argentina to the final, Messi recorded five goals and three assists.
Now Messi is one step away from leading Argentina to win the 2022 World Cup. Argentina will face the winner of the France-Morocco duel in the final round.
The match between France and Morocco took place on Thursday (15/12) in the morning WIB.
