Both Barcelona and Messi have held talks to a serious stage and are reportedly finalizing the final details. Barcelona confident will announce Messi’s new contract next week.
For his latest contract, Messi is tied until 2023 with a salary that is likely the same, which is 71 million euros per year, not tax deducted.
However, there are obstacles that Barcelona will encounter if they want to extend Messi’s contract. Quoted by the Daily Mail, Barcelona must first release the contracts of other players which total 172 million euros.
This is related to the financial crisis Barcelona so the debt is mounting. LaLiga does provide a salary cap limit for clubs in order to survive in the midst of the current corona virus pandemic.
The total salary bill that must be waived is around 200 million euros or around Rp. 3.2 T! Meanwhile, Messi’s stay will end this Wednesday (30/6) or Thursday (1/7) morning WIB.
That means there is a possibility that Messi will be without a club tomorrow and can negotiate with the club. Barcelona inevitably have to immediately resolve financial matters, before being able to tie Messi.
Moreover, Barcelona’s salary bill has certainly increased quite a lot because it has just recruited three players for free, namely Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, and Memphis Depay.
