Success in the Champions League this week, but things are slower at home in the league. Lionel Messi suffered his first loss with the new team when Paris Saint Germain lost away to Rennes 0-2.
After eight straight victories at the start of the French football season, the first loss came for PSG. Rennes won the Ligue 1 meeting thanks to goals from Gaëtan Laborde and Flavian Tait on each side of the half-time break.
Star trio Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, who contributed to PSG’s victory against Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday, were left goalless from the pitch.
In the first half, Messi was close to scoring for his team with a free kick from 25 meters, but the ball took the crossbar. Mbappé also scored a goal that was ruled offside after video review.
The loss is PSG’s first away game in the league in eight months.
The charge before the match was disrupted by storms which meant that PSG could not fly to the match the night before but instead had to take a bus – or in some cases in the players’ own cars – to the city of Rennes in Brittany.
