Lionel Messi managed to lead Argentina to the championship World Cup 2022. Here is a string of records Messi helped create to go along with this success.
Messi scored twice in Argentina’s successful defeat to France at the top of the 2022 World Cup. The Albiceleste ended France’s hold on penalties.
In the penalty shootout, Messi was also able to perform his duties as an executor well. Argentina won with a score of 4-2.
Behind Messi’s success in leading Argentina to the World Cup, a number of records have been created.
Here are the records entered by Messi:
1. Appearing in the 2022 World Cup Final, Messi is now the only player to hold the record as the player with the most matches at the World Cup, i.e. 26 games. He is leaving Lothar Matthaus who held the record for 24 years.
2. Lionel Messi became the first player to score in the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final at a single World Cup.
3. That’s how Messi was elected man of the match the 2022 World Cup Final. Total Messi has won five awards man of the match in this edition, a record for the most awards for a single edition of the World Cup.
4. Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or to mark him as the best player for the 2022 World Cup. Messi is the only player to win the Ballon d’Or twice since the award was introduced in 1982. Previously, Messi won the Ballon d’Or at the 2014 World Cup.
5. Messi scored a total of 26 goals between the World Cup and the Copa America. He managed to surpass the record belonging to the Brazilian legend Ronaldo.
