The indictment
Messina Denaro would have determined within the Cosa Nostra – according to the accusation, supported in the courtroom by the deputy prosecutor Gabriele Paci – a climate of unanimity without which the Corleonese mafia boss Tot Riina would not have been able to carry out his massacre plans, if not to risk of a mafia war. During the indictment, the magistrate, who requested a life sentence, explained that the role of Messina Denaro was decisive for the line followed by the mafia at the time: It is not sustainable that Tot Riina would have taken that path anyway without having the consent of Cosa Nostra. , because if there had been the dissent of the leaders of one of the provinces there would have been a war.
