Liverpool –
Two megastars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both changed clubs. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp sure, their transfer is not just for commercial purposes.
Messi first shocked the world of football after leaving Barcelona, the club that has sheltered him for two decades. The Argentine football superstar was forced to leave because Barca were in financial trouble before finally landing in Paris St. Germain.
Even though he is 34 years old, Messi still so powerful after packing 38 goals plus 14 assists for Barcelona throughout 2020/2021. The arrival of the world’s best player six times was greeted very lively by the Parisian public.
A few weeks later, it was Ronaldo’s rival who made a scene. The Portuguese superstar left Juventus after three seasons and returned to Manchester United after being widely rumored to be close to Manchester City.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is believed to have agreed a two-year contract and will undergo a medical in Lisbon before landing at Old Trafford.
For PSG and Man United the presence of players with the status of Messi and Ronaldo has clearly brought huge profits from the commercial side. However, Klopp said the decision to sign them was because both of them could still contribute a lot.
“I think especially with Messi and Ronaldo, maybe there is a commercial aspect to those transfers. However, I don’t think PSG signed Messi for commercial reasons. Maybe, yes, but I don’t know,” he said Klopp from ESPN.
“They signed him because Messi can still contribute a lot to their club. If Ronaldo came to the Premier League, that would be his main intention.”
“No one has ever come to me to make a commercial signing, whatever that means. Nobody asked me to do that and if it did come, I would probably start thinking about it. However, so far it has never happened anyway,” said Klopp commented on transfer Messi and Ronaldo.
