BARCELONA – Barcelona presidential candidate, Victor Font, also commented on the decision Lionel Messi who finally chose to stay in the Blaugrana squad – Barcelona’s nickname. He did not deny that Messi actually had a strong belief in defending Manchester City.
Font says Man City is the strongest candidate to become the next port for Messi because of the presence of his former coach, Josep ‘Pep’ Guardiola. La Pulga – the nickname Messi – is considered very confident that he can re-reap success while under Guardiola.
Because Font assesses Messi as a footballer who only wants to compete and win. When coached by Guardiola in Barcelona, the Argentine striker himself is known to have experienced success in various competitions.

Guardiola is recorded as being able to lead Barcelona to two Champions League trophies, three Spanish League titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, winning the Club World Cup twice, and much more. With this condition, Font is not surprised if the rumors of Messi leaving Barcelona that have been widely heard in recent times have always been linked to Man City. The reason is, Messi considers Man City as the best choice if he wants to leave Barcelona.
But now, Barcelona no longer need to worry about losing the figure of Messi who chose to move to Man City. Because, Messi has confirmed that he will stay at Barcelona, at least until his contract ends on June 30, 2021.
The reason Messi stays at Barcelona is due to one thing, namely the high price set by the club management to him. For your information, Barcelona’s management put a release clause on Messi for 700 million euros, or approximately Rp. 12.2 trillion. The strict rules on Financial Fair Play make it difficult for interested clubs to spend that much money.
“What Messi wants is to compete and win. I’m sure he knows that one of the best coaches he has is Pep and because of that he believes Pep can help him win again,” said Font, as quoted by Goal, Saturday (5/9/2020).
“Manchester City is one of the strongest squad in Europe at the moment and I think the combination of that and Pep’s leadership is probably why Messi thought it would be a good choice,” he said.
