Messi: ‘My goal is to win another Champions League’

Lionel Messi said he is convinced that Paris Saint-Germain “is the right place” to win their fifth Champions League title.

The Argentine’s farewell to Barcelona is the biggest transfer story of the summer and was announced yesterday by Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG today introduced Lionel Messi as their new forward and the Argentine hopes to join Kylian Mbappé and Neymar in the French capital.

“It will be great to live day to day with this squad that has great players,” Messi said at a press conference.

“There have been many new signings and there were already very strong ones, now I really want to start with them.

“I don’t know when, because I’m coming on vacation, although I haven’t stopped training. I’ll talk to the technical staff, but I don’t know yet, I’ll have to prepare for sure.

“I do not know when I will be able to go out to the field.”

The former Blaugrana striker won the Champions League four times during his time at Barcelona and aspires to win another in Paris.

“It’s not easy. In the end you can have the best team in the world, but you don’t win, because football is made up of details,” added Messi.

“Paris was very close to winning, they had very strong teams, but they never managed to win the trophy. I don’t know what could be missing, but we must be a united group.

“I still don’t know the dressing room, but from the outside I can say that we need a bit of luck.”

Messi believes that the PSG squad is “complete” and said that he has arrived to “help” them achieve all their goals.

“There is a complete team here, important signings have been made to win the Champions League,” Messi continued. “I am here to help, give my best and be able to achieve the maximum.

“My goal is to win another Champions League and I am convinced that I am in the right place.”
