The Argentine soccer legend and Barcelona captain Lionel Messi honored his late compatriot Maradona, and a punishment was imposed on the Catalan club.
Messi scored the fourth goal for Barcelona against Osasuna, during the two teams’ match on Sunday, and dedicated the goal to the spirit of Argentine football legend Maradona.
Lionel Messi was wearing his shirt with Newell’s Old Boys, a joint team for which the two biggest stars played during their soccer careers.
And the Spanish newspaper “Sport” confirmed that the gesture of honoring Lionel Messi to his fellow Argentine football legend Maradona caused a penalty for the Catalan club.
The Spanish newspaper added that Barcelona will be required to pay 3,000 euros, after Messi’s gesture, noting that these are the rules of the International Football Association, FIFA.
And FIFA rules prohibit taking off the shirt to display any other logo throughout the two halves of the match, and Messi broke these rules in yesterday’s match for the Argentine football legend Maradona.
Barcelona captain Lionel Messi was awarded a disciplinary punishment during the match, after the referee declared a yellow card for him after removing his shirt during his celebration of the goal.
