Lionel Messi broke the record for the most liked post in Instagram history thanks to a photo he posted after winning the Qatar 2022 World Cup with Argentina.
As of this writing, Messi’s post has generated over 71 million likes on Instagram.
“Heartfelt thanks to my family, to all those who support me and also to all those who believed in us,” read part of the text accompanying the photos.

The post with the most likes on Instagram before Messi broke the record was posted by the @world_record_egg Instagram account. The only post on that account is a photo of a single egg which has generated a record over 58 million likes.
That egg post was made in 2019 with the sole goal of stripping Kylie Jenner of the title of most liked ‘post’ on Instagram; a record that Messi now holds.
