Rumors about Lionel Messi’s possible comeback to Barcelona keep popping up. Now the world champion has commented on this in an interview with the newspaper “Olé” and confirmed that he will return.
How long Lionel Messi will continue his successful career is still unclear. Most recently, the world champion has not even ruled out a start at the 2026 World Cup. But what is definitely certain for the now 35-year-old: After his career he will return to Barcelona. He said so in an interview with the newspaper olé reported. “It’s my home,” says the seven-time world footballer. The Barca legend has scored a total of 672 goals and assisted another 303 in 778 competitive games for the Catalans.
But “La Pulga” does not want to rule out the hope of a possible comeback at Blaugrana either. Above all, club president Joan Laporta tries again and again to bring the prodigal son back to the site of his greatest success.
Paris is fighting to keep Messi
In 2021, Messi left his parent club for a free transfer and moved to France. His contract in the city of love expires at the end of the season. Those responsible at Paris are trying very hard to further bind the superstar to the club. A first offer with a one-year contract plus an option for another should be on the table. Although Messi feels comfortable with a family in the metropolis, he is repeatedly lured with offers from the desert. At least since Ronaldo’s million-dollar coup at Al Nassr, that should no longer be unthinkable. According to media reports, ex-Parisian David Beckham is said to be vying for the Argentinian’s services and wanting to bring Messi to Inter Miami.
In the next six months, however, the 35-year-old would like to concentrate on the goals in Paris. The Scheich-Klub dreams of winning the Champions League for the first time, where they meet Bayern in the round of 16 on February 14 and want to take the next step towards dreaming of the title. What Messi’s future will look like will probably not be clarified until then and will provide a lot of topics for conversation until then.
