Before joining Manchester United in 2016, Eric Bailly played two seasons in Spain. A first for Espanyol Barcelona, a second for Villarreal, during which he exploded. As a central defender, he therefore rubbed shoulders with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was playing at Real Madrid at the time, as well as Lionel Messi. Yet neither the Portuguese nor the Argentine is the best player in football history in the eyes of the Ivorian.

Asked about Guillem Balague’s Youtube channel, Bailly said: “My greatest inspiration has always been Sergio Ramos. I have always admired him, for what he has done in football and the way he maintains himself at a very high level. For me he is one of the greatest players in football history. Everyone has their opinion, but this is one of the best, the perfect benchmark for me. If you ask me Messi or Ronaldo, I answer Ramos ”.
