This assist tally makes Messi the only player to have successfully scored assists in five editions of the World Cup. A fantastic record that has never been carved by other top players.
Messi has made his World Cup debut since 2006 and has contributed a total of six assists in five World Cups. Messi’s most assists so far (2) occurred at the 2018 World Cup.
Pulga can still contribute further assists as Argentina have made just two appearances in the qualifying round of Group C for the 2022 World Cup.
When it comes to scoring goals, Messi has scored eight goals in four editions of the World Cup. The Paris Saint Germain star only failed to score at the 2010 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo successfully established himself a few days ago as the only player to have scored consecutive goals in five editions of the World Cup. CR7 has never failed to score since he made his debut in 2006.
A total of eight goals have been scored by Ronaldo in this four-year tournament. However, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player has provided just two assists in two editions of the World Cup.
In terms of goals scored, Messi also scored eight goals, equal to Ronaldo’s achievements. However, he missed the round skin in one edition of the World Cup.
Messi and Ronaldo are listed as the two best players to have graced the records of world football. However, both are currently making records in different categories. Messi regularly provides assists in five World Cups, while Ronaldo has always scored goals in the world’s five biggest tournaments.
It will be interesting to wait for the new records that Messi and Ronaldo will be able to achieve at the 2022 World Cup. Furthermore, the prestigious event in Qatar can be considered the final stop for the two players.
