WhatsApp is testing a new feature for the popular Messenger. It’s about self-destructive images like WABetaInfo reported. If a user posts a picture in a chat and marks it as “self-destructive”, it disappears after a selected time or after the user leaves the chat. WhatsApp thus complements the range of messages that are automatically deleted after a certain period of time.
So far, the new WhatsApp feature has only been tested and developed internally. It will be a while before it finally gets into the current version of the messenger. With the self-destructive messages, it took a few weeks before the first beta tests for WhatsApp users came about. If you want to be prepared for the release now, we recommend installing the WhatsApp beta.

What do the self-destructive WhatsApp images bring?
Anyone who sends embarrassing or piquant pictures can use the new WhatsApp feature to ensure that they do not linger in the chat for too long. If the images are marked, they are first obscured from the recipient. Only when you click on it will the picture be displayed on WhatsApp. However, it remains in the chat and is not downloaded to the recipient’s device.
WhatsApp should work on further precautions so that the recipient does not make a secret copy via a screenshot. According to WABetaInfo there should be a “screenshot recognition”. How this ultimately works is not known. It would be conceivable that the sender would receive a notification when someone takes a screenshot. Alternatively, the picture could also be deleted directly if a screenshot is taken on WhatsApp.
