Some Instagram users will now be able to send a message from that app to someone using Messenger and vice versa. That capability will later be extended to everyone. Instagram and Messenger are owned by Facebook, which announced last year that it wants to connect both media more closely to each other and to Whatsapp (also from Facebook). Critics say Facebook wants to make it more difficult for the government to split the company into multiple parts. (dod)
