Facebook had to temporarily deactivate functions from Messenger and Instagram.
Facebook had to deactivate functions from Messenger and Instagram at short notice. The US group has to improve EU data protection rules. According to one Report from The Verge some functions of the services are no longer available to users in Europe. Accordingly, users in Europe are currently receiving the following message in Facebook’s own apps: “Some features are not available. This is to comply with new rules for messaging services in Europe. We are working on making them available again. “
The IT group does not disclose any specific information and therefore does not explain which functions are specifically affected. The Verge, on the other hand, claims to have found out that survey functions are currently deactivated in both Messenger and Instagram in Europe. In addition, stickers on Instagram and personalized responses in Messenger should not work. Users also report on social media that file sending has been deactivated in Messenger.
Other users report that nicknames are no longer displayed for you and that AR effects are switched off in private messages on Instagram. So far, Facebook has not given a time frame for reactivating the corresponding functions. The network only told The Verge “very soon”. The current situation could be a consequence of Facebook’s compliance with the national implementation of the data protection directive for electronic communications (ePrivacy Directive). The legislation prescribes stricter rules for the use of data in communication services. ✠
