[15.2.2022] Stadtwerke Wolfsburg and its telecommunications subsidiary WOBCOM are developing central smart city data platforms for Wolfsburg and municipalities throughout Germany with Dell Technologies. They agreed that in a declaration of intent.

The IT company Dell Technologies wants to develop secure and cost-effective data infrastructures for smart cities together with Stadtwerke Wolfsburg and its subsidiary WOBCOM. As the companies announce, a declaration of intent has now been signed. Under the umbrella of the international platform ASTRID Innovation Hub, the companies want to pool their expertise in the future in order to promote the joint development of infrastructure solutions for smart cities. The aim of the cooperation is to provide the platform solutions for municipalities throughout Germany.
The basis of the new infrastructure solutions is the Open Digital Data Platform (ODP). It was created under the umbrella of the #WolfsburgDigital initiative by the Stadtwerke and WOBCOM as a digital infrastructure for Wolfsburg as a business location (we reported). The platform makes it possible to retrieve municipal data in a structured way, share it securely and use it for specific applications. All data is stored locally in the WOBCOM data center. Servers and virtualization software from Dell Technologies are used in the platform.
Frank Kästner, CEO of Stadtwerke Wolfsburg and Managing Director of WOBCOM, explains: “Cross-industry cooperation and an open exchange of information are the key to successful smart city solutions. We have come to know and appreciate Dell Technologies as a reliable and competent partner. Together we will now advance the development of central solutions that can also pave the way for other municipalities to become digital cities.” (al)
