Status message from WhatsApp? Messenger is reaching out to some of you right now, promoting a handy feature that many are probably still unaware of.

- WhatsApp is currently posting status notification ads about “self-deleting messages”.
- If you activate this, your messages in the chat will disappear after a predefined time.
- The feature was introduced in 2020.
In addition to your friends’ status reports, you sometimes see WhatsApp messages in your status. What does all this have to do with anything? Some time ago Messenger was granted the right to inform you about in-app innovations via in-app notifications. In the current status report, WhatsApp publishes ads such as the “Self-Deleting Notifications” feature.
WhatsApp launched it in 2020 under the title “Expired Messages”. However, it still seems to be underused, so Messenger is playing with its promotional drum now. If you activate the feature in chat, all messages sent here will be deleted after a predetermined time.
You can choose between 24 hours, 7 or 90 days. You can also set all new chats to delete messages themselves via the “Default message duration” option in the settings.
Another practical new but still largely unknown WhatsApp feature is presented in a related article. This makes it easier to listen to voice messages. We also explain to the network world what the red exclamation mark behind WhatsApp messages is.
