Mes, Pd and Cinque Stelle divided in the European Parliament: M5S votes with the League on an amendment

Pd and M5S divided in Brussels on the Mes. The two majority parties in Italy are divided by the vote on the amendment presented by the League and the Identity and Democracy Group to the resolution to the European Parliament on the conclusions of the extraordinary European Council of 17-21 July. The amendment asked to reject a use of the Mes aimed at stimulating the economy following the Covid-19 crisis. In favor of the amendment, then rejected, Lega, FdI and M5S. The amendment was rejected, with 560 votes against, including those of the Pd MEPs, Action, Italia Viva and Forza Italia. The conditions and possibilities for individual governments to access the Mes remain unchanged. The vote on the final resolution regarding the entire recovery fund package expected for late afternoon.
