After a marriage that lasted about 45 years, the veteran American star, Meryl Streep, separated from her life partner, Don Gummer, according to media reports.
The magazine confirmed,PeopleThe American newspaper reported that the 74-year-old star, who won an Academy Award three times, officially announced her divorce from Gomer (76 years old) following an “emotional separation” that occurred 6 years ago.
“Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for over 6 years, and although they will always care for each other, they have chosen to live apart,” a representative for Streep said in a statement to the magazine.
Although the couple has not appeared together in public since the 2018 Academy Awards, Streep was seen wearing her wedding ring, Friday, at the 2023 Princesa de Asturias Awards in Spain.
On September 30, the “Iron Lady” star and Gomer celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.
Merrill had met Gomer, a sculptor from Louisville, Kentucky, in 1978, through her brother, noting that at that time she was mourning the death of her colleague, actor John Cazale, who passed away due to lung cancer.

He later earned a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the prestigious Yale University, and his works have appeared in galleries around the world since the early 1970s.
During an interview with Vogue magazine in 2002, Streep gave a rare glimpse into her relationship with Gomer, as she explained that the secret to the longevity of their relationship was due to “good faith and a mutual willingness to bow down… and be silent from time to time.”
She continued: “There is no road map on how to create and raise a family. There are always difficult negotiations.”
She added, “But I have an overarching need for work and great love connections in my life. I can’t imagine avoiding one for the other.”
