“Merry Christmas”: first SMS ever from 1992 is auctioned for 107,000 euros

In fact, the SMS itself has not been sold, but its NFT has. That stands for “non fungible token” or non-replaceable token. In human language, this comes down to a property right to a digital item via blockchain technology.

The sale of those NFTs is on the rise. Recently, 2.5 million euros was paid for the first tweet. It was sent by Jack Dorsey, co-founder and until recently CEO of the company Twitter. The source code of the worldwide web yielded 4.6 million euros via NFT last summer.
