Dcharming wines. Such could be, in essence, the summary of this tasting of nearly 70 cuvées, which was one of the most homogeneous of this vintage. Considered by some to be the weak link in the Bordeaux vineyards, given climate change, and particularly global warming, Merlot proved in 2022 that, “on its favorite soils, and provided the viticultural practices are adapted, it is quite capable of producing remarkable wines”, as highlighted in the annual report on the vintage from the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences of the University of Bordeaux (ISVV). Fresh, bright fruit, good vivacity on the palate and soft tannins already very much in place give harmonious wines which will undoubtedly be very pleasant to drink when young…
