The chancellor criticized the opening strategy of some provinces on the ARD’s Sunday night political program due to rising infection rates across the country. In his view
the law on disease control should be amended
in such a way that, in the event of an emergency, the measures taken by the Berlin Government take precedence and not only at the provincial level.
Merkel was criticized by Berlin Mayor Michael Müller, who said
the Chancellor gives the impression that he is acting responsibly in the current situation,
others don’t, though they are essentially rowing in a boat. Müller was criticized not only by the Chancellor but also by Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder, who was also reluctant to view the opening policy, who said that Berlin was “sending death signals”. But even Müller’s coalition partner, the Greens, does not agree with the quick opening. One of the district mayors, Stephan von Dassel, a Greens politician, reported on Twitter on Sunday that in some parts of the capital, people walk and group in groups, in places drunk, therefore proposed the introduction of a night curfew, this, in turn, is rejected by the mayor.
The topic of opening or closing is not a party issue, as the case of Bremen proves. The mayor of the northern German city, Andreas Bovenschulte, told Deutschlandfunk that
this is not the time for opening and the necessary restrictive measures must be implemented.
According to the article, the law on epidemic protection was amended last November, clarifying the rules for wearing a mask or passing restrictions on outbound restrictions.
According to the legislation, in case of an increase in the number of infections, the same epidemiological measures must be applied to the whole territory of the country,
however, this means nothing from a legal point of view, constitutional lawyer Andrea Kiessling told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. According to his colleague, Thorsten Kingreen, the biggest concern is that the current law does not formulate it specifically enough.
