Without citing sources, Der Spiegel says Merkel visited Navalni at Charité hospital, where he was treated for 32 days. Last month, he was taken to Berlin hospital from Russia after falling ill on a domestic flight in Russia.
A spokesperson for Merkel declined to comment on the message.
The German government says tests in Germany, France and Sweden showed that he had been poisoned with the nerve agent novichok. Germany and other Western countries have asked Moscow for clarification about the poisoning.
Moscow has denied any involvement in the incident and said it has not yet seen any evidence of a crime.
