Radical measures have also been taken in Britain, where public life has so far largely continued. Prime Minister Johnson announced that all schools in England will be closed indefinitely on Friday. Only students whose parents have a vital profession can count on a form of childcare, just like in the Netherlands.

The exams in May and June are canceled, but no one needs to worry about not getting a diploma, the prime minister said. The government will also support companies and citizens financially and in other ways.

If necessary, the government will take further steps; it is possible that London (where the number of infections in the United Kingdom is highest) will be locked. Those who want to can still go out in the British capital.

Corresponding measures have been taken in Scotland: schools will also be closed there from Friday.
