Merkel and regional leaders round table on store closure | Abroad

A partial lockdown has been in effect for about a month and a half in Germany. Catering establishments are closed, but schools and shops did not have to close. Despite these measures, tens of thousands of new infections are reported every day. This also increases the pressure on politicians to intervene.

Minister of Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier told German media that intensive care units of hospitals are reaching their limits. He said there should be clarity on what steps are needed now to keep the pandemic from “getting out of hand.”

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German RIVM, reported 28,438 new corona infections on Saturday. Another 496 corona patients also died.
