Meritorious board members of sports clubs from the city and district of Würzburg

After two years of Corona, the sports clubs in the city and district of Würzburg were able to largely return to normal club operations – and are often still faced with major challenges: some familiar structures first have to be restored, and after several lockdowns, members have to be kept in line or new ones have to be recruited .

Especially for the members of the board of directors, this means a lot of voluntary work, invested (free) time and the assumption of responsibility. The Main-Post has therefore been honoring the commitment of the board members for many years with the “Board of the Year” campaign, which takes place regularly with the support of the city and district of Würzburg and the Sparkasse Mainfranken.

Running a sports club hasn’t gotten any easier over the years. Under professional pressure, time is short for volunteers, plus there are legal requirements and administrative work, financing issues and the demographic challenge: Quite a few are on the way from youth to senior sports clubs. Clubs and departments today have to think outside the box and cooperate, while at the same time their own identity should not be lost. Foresight, commitment and expertise are required at the head of a good club.

Joint competition in the city and district of Würzburg

Last year there was a “Corona Special” edition for the “Board of Directors of the Year”, in which the competition was jointly advertised for the city and district for the first time. There were historical reasons for the fact that there were always two competitions announced at different times: the “Board of the Year” in the district has existed much longer than the corresponding competition in the city.

After the successful test run last year, we will continue to use the system in the future. From now on there is a joint competition for the sports region of Würzburg, i.e. for the city and the district.

What prices are advertised?

Two main prizes for the “Board of Directors of the Year” are advertised, each endowed with 1000 euros. The Sparkasse Mainfranken, which has been a loyal partner of the campaign for many years, will continue to provide the prize money for this in the future. The award is given to board members who can become a role model for others through a special achievement.

In addition, a new special prize will be announced with immediate effect, with which outstanding innovative ideas, inclusive and sustainable club work and/or particularly good youth work are honored. This prize is endowed with 500 euros, also donated by the Sparkasse Mainfranken.

In addition, there will also be the undoped honorary award for “Good Souls in the Association”. The award is given to those hard-working helpers who are always there when they are needed, who do not push themselves into the front row – without whose help a sports operation would not be possible.

Who can apply?

Proposals for a “board of the year” and for the special prize can be submitted by any association member, by citizens or by the board itself. A good justification is important. Anyone can nominate their loyal helpers for the “Good Souls in the Association” competition.

When is the application deadline?

The application period runs up to and including Monday 19 September 2022. Applications should be sent with a detailed justification to the local editorial office of Main-Post, either by email ([email protected]) or online using the web form below this post.

Who selects the award winners?

The winners are determined by a jury made up of sports officials, responsible persons from the city of Würzburg and the district, Sparkasse Mainfranken and journalists. The award ceremony takes place during an event.
