This Tuesday, April 11, through a video posted on social networks, Yovani Gonzalez, mayor of the Cardenal Quintero municipality in the state of Mérida, announced his resignation from office.
So far the reasons that led him to make this decision are unknown, however he spoke about how difficult it is for an opponent to be able to govern.
“I find myself in a difficult personal and family crusade that prevents me from continuing with such an important role that I have been playing,” he said.
González thanked all the employees of the mayor’s office for the support provided during his administration.
The video went viral on social networks, although people are waiting for more details and the reason for the resignation, the whereabouts of the former mayor are currently unknown.
Earlier Francis Barrios, general director of the mayor’s office, had reported on González’s absence since March 17.
According to a publication in Diario Los Andes: “The administrator and the head of communications of the mayor’s office claim to have communicated with González, who is believed to be in the city of Valencia, as he fears for his life and that of his family.” However, in the video fragment where González appears, he does not mention anything about it.
