Mergers of hospital services: questions still unresolved

Doctor Luc Cormier took part in a meeting on Friday with the Minister of Local Government, Daniel Allain, and the leaders of Vitalité Health Network.

The Dr Cormier says Minister Allain has indicated that the New Brunswick government does not intend to merge the two health networks, Vitalité and Horizon. The meeting has put the record straight about it, says the Dr Cormier.

The doctor adds, however, that he still has questions about Fredericton’s desire to increase collaboration and the integration of services between the Moncton Hospital and the CHAPTER Dumont.

Those who already work in our hospitals know that we have already had a lot, a lot of collaboration, for years with the Moncton Hospital., he emphasizes. How do we want to increase this cooperation, when it has already been in place for a long time? I don’t know exactly where we want to go with this.

Minister Daniel Allain was not available for an interview on Saturday. Our government has been clear and has made a commitment not to merge the two health authorities. So I want to correct the disinformation circulating in social media, however, he wrote in an emailed statement on Saturday.

Interviewed at Telejournal Acadie Friday evening, the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Blaine Higgs, Louis Léger, did not advance on a possible amalgamation of services. He indicated that Mr. Higgs wanted to create a debate On the question.

On the other hand, it was category on the issue of health networks. There will always be two networks. It is not debatable, said Mr. Léger. Services in French will always be there.
