Merel Westrik believes that presenting the news of Sinterklaas is “not a completely cheerful business”. The presenter said this in De Telegraaf on Saturday. This year she is taking the place of Dieuwertje Blok, who has to recover longer after having her nose amputated due to cancer.
“I am happy to help Dieuwertje while she needs it,” Westrik said in the newspaper. “Of course I’m looking forward to experiencing it all. It’s special. But of course I’d prefer if this wasn’t necessary.”
The 44-year-old presenter also reflects on motherhood. She has a daughter, Billie Mae (3), with RTL 4 presenter Pepijn Crone. “Everybody becomes their mother,” Westrik notes. “I hear myself saying: “Come here, you get three seconds”. I used to hear that too. One minute I want to kiss her to pieces, so to speak. Then she is so sweet and loving. The next moment you think: really, you’re driving me crazy.
