(NOTICIAS YA).- Mercy clinic officials announced that they will offer a test that can detect early signs of cancer of more than 50 types of cancer.
A press release reported that the GRAIL Galleri test uses advanced testing capabilities to detect early signs of cancer. Mercy is one of the first health systems to offer the test.
“Recommended cancer screening tests in the US currently cover only five types of cancer — breast, cervical, colon, lung, and prostate — and can detect only one at a time,” said Dr. Dr. Jay Carlson, of Mercy, in the press release published by ABC.
“This groundbreaking test has demonstrated the ability to detect hard-to-detect, aggressive and often deadly cancers such as pancreatic, ovarian and esophageal cancers, which often have no warning signs and are too often detected. afternoon”.
The test looks for a shared signal present in the bloodstream associated with many types of cancer, according to the release.
“Early detection can play a critical role in cancer treatment, allowing cancers to be found when treatment is most likely to be successful,” GRAIL Executive Director Bob Ragusa said in the statement.
“We believe that new approaches, including early detection tests for multiple types of cancer, are the new front in the war on cancer and one of our best opportunities to bend the cancer mortality curve. We are excited to work with Mercy.” to offer Galleri to their patients.”
The release says the test is recommended for adults at increased risk of cancer, such as people age 50 and older. It’s available by prescription only, and officials said the test isn’t recommended for people who are pregnant, age 21 or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.
A clinical study shows that Galleri’s test could detect a shared signal for more than 50 types of cancer, more than 45 of which lack recommended screening tests.
Insurance doesn’t cover the blood test, so people would have to pay out of pocket. The press release said that Mercy will work with patients who qualify but cannot afford the full cost.
