Mercury climbs to 31.3 degrees: never before was a tropical day …

The day record for the hottest 14 September ever recorded was broken this afternoon in Uccle. The mercury climbed above 30 degrees. Never before has a tropical day been recorded so late in the year.

Around half past three the thermometer indicated a temperature of 30.2 degrees. Ultimately, the highest temperature measured was 31.3 degrees.

According to weatherman David Dehenauw, the record for the last tropical day of the year so far was on September 13. In 2016, 31.2 degrees was recorded on that day. Dehenauw does not expect the new record to last longer than one day: a new one will follow tomorrow. Because Tuesday will also be a tropical day, when the heat rises above 30 degrees.

However, a new heat wave is not in sight. This requires five consecutive days with a maximum temperature of 25 degrees, three of which are over thirty. But the day after tomorrow the mercury will already drop below 25 degrees. The rest of the week it remains sunny and warm for the time of the year, with maximum temperatures of over 20 degrees.
