Mercociudades Action Hub at Latin American and Caribbean Climate Week 2023: Perspectives on COP28 from Local Governments

On October 23, the Mercociudades Action Hub will take place for the Latin American and Caribbean Climate Weeka space with the objective of presenting the perspective of the local governments of the Network regarding the next COP28. The activity will be in hybrid format in Panama City, and through Teams to participate virtually. Open enrollment.

From October 23 to 27, Panama City will host the Latin American and Caribbean Climate Week 2023 (LACCW). The results of this meeting will contribute to the first global balancewhich will conclude at COP 28 in the United Arab Emirates in December this year, and offers a unique opportunity to call for decisive change and to urgently respond to the need to accelerate progress by collectively embarking on a rapid and deep transformation of our systems economic and social.

LACCW 2023 and all Regional Climate Weeks provide a platform for policymakers, the private sector, academia and civil society to exchange information on climate solutions, challenges and opportunities in different regions.

During the event in Panama City, Mercociudades will present the views of the Network’s local governments regarding the upcoming COP28 and present some of the tools developed to promote climate action.

The presentation of the Political Positioning of the Network will be carried out by the coordinator of the Thematic Unit of Environment and Sustainable Development, general director of Environmental Management of the Municipality of Montevideo, Leonardo Herou. Representatives of the Municipality of Peñalolén will also participate in the exercise of the Vice Presidency of Sustainable Urban Development and Climate Change of Mercociudades. In addition, the activity has the support of the global network of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM).

The meeting will take place on October 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Panama (GMT-5) / 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Montevideo (GMT-3).
