Mercedes wants to build global network of fast chargers like Tesla | Economy

German automaker Mercedes-Benz wants to create its own global network with fast chargers, just like Tesla has already done. It is to consist of 10,000 ultra-fast chargers, the German automaker’s CEO Ola Källenius announced Thursday during the CES technology trade show in Las Vegas.

Chargers must have a capacity of up to 350 kilowatts. This allows you to recharge up to 30 kilometers of range per minute. For example, an electric car can be recharged in minutes.

Mercedes will install the first fast chargers in the United States. There the company can receive subsidies from the government. Later, the automaker will also install fast chargers in Europe and China.

Mercedes has previously announced its intention to invest more than $40 billion to electrify its entire lineup by the end of this decade. With this, Mercedes wants to halve its CO2 emissions compared to 2018. Mercedes fast charging stations will be located near major cities and highways.
