The Mercedes brand has introduced a new generation of the E-Class. The manufacturer positions this model as a “bridge” between the classical past and the digital future.

Outwardly, retractable handles draw attention to themselves, and the interior is made in the “glass cockpit” format, when all instruments and secondary functions are controlled through touchscreens. Mercedes is positioning the new E-Class as the most customizable car in its history, with the ability to digitally tune the car’s functions to the specific wishes of the client.

In particular, the client will be able to use Apple devices, including smart watches, as a car key.

At the time of launch, the new Mercedes E-Class will be equipped with just two power plants, and in both cases we are talking about “mild hybrids” with low-power, 20-horsepower electric motors.

Both versions are offered only with all-wheel drive. The youngest, the E 350, is now equipped with a two-liter turbo four with 259 hp. For a surcharge, the E 450 version is also offered. It is equipped with a three-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a capacity of 380 hp.

Mercedes E-Class has been the brand’s most popular model for decades, occupying an intermediate niche between expensive premium S-Class sedans and more affordable compact models. Now the popularity of such sedans is under threat due to the growing demand for crossovers.

The hallmark of the Mercedes E-Class in recent decades has been the world’s best aerodynamic efficiency. The previous model had a drag coefficient Cd of 0.23. The new generation could not improve, but retained this figure, which is still one of the most outstanding in the class.

As Autonews.ru previously reported, the Mercedes brand officially left Russia, stopped service support and transferred its plant in the Moscow region and the rights to service the cars sold to the Russian Avtodom group of companies. In addition, since April 25, even the branded application for managing the functions of Mercedes cars has stopped working for Russian customers.
