Mercedes shows first images of new F1 car

The livery was already known, but Mercedes has now also shown the new Formula 1 car for the upcoming season. Prior to a shakedown in Silverstone, the brand shared the first images of the Mercedes W11.

Mercedes already showed its updated livery for the 2020 season on Monday, when it was shown on the car of the past year. This so-called ‘livery reveal’ was brought forward because of a new sponsorship deal with Ineos. The champion formation has therefore slightly adjusted its color scheme. The silver remains defining, but from this year the airbox has been given the color of the new sponsor: red.

On Valentine’s Day, the Toto Wolff formation also announced the new car. Prior to a ‘roll-out’ on the Silverstone circuit, the brand shared the first ‘renders’. Later in the morning, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will also physically pull the curtain off this new creation, in an official presentation.

In line with almost all F1 cars that have been presented so far, the W11 is also a clear development of the 2019 car. There are also no good reasons to completely change course: Mercedes has won all the world titles in the last six seasons. With six constructor titles in a row, Ferrari’s record (1999 through 2004) has even been matched. It means that in 2020 Mercedes will have an excellent opportunity to sharpen that same record. Hamilton, in turn, can also write history by personally taking his seventh world title. In that case, he equals Michael Schumacher’s long-considered record.

However, it is not yet that far. On the contrary, the Wolff men want to guard against recklessness and concentrate on the here and now. That said later today consists of a shakedown. Bottas will be given the honor to kick off with the new machine. After a few runs of the Finn, Hamilton will take over the wheel of the W11 in the afternoon. This test work will be continued next week, when the first winter test is scheduled at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit.
