Mercedes has introduced the all-new Citan in passenger and truck variants and updated its range of vans. Like the previous generation of the model, it shares components and units with the French original – Renault Kangoo, which also soon received major changes.
The only difference in appearance that you can find between the French and German “pie” is in the front, where Mercedes has tried to give their identity to the model, and in the rear, where the lights are also the work of Mercedes. At higher levels of equipment they have LED technology.
A variety of options with one or two doors opening, a tailgate split in two, a windowed or cargo version will be available, and Mercedes promises a longer version in the near future. Two Europallets can be accommodated in the rear, and the cargo volume is 2.9 cubic meters, and the length of the cargo space is exactly 4.05 meters.
Mercedes has also done its best in the interior, where similar features to the Kangoo are minimized. In the central part of the dashboard is a 7-inch screen, and at higher levels of equipment we can see a multi-steering wheel with touch controls and silver accents on the steering wheel and dashboard. As standard, you get a lane keeping system, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and an active braking assistant.
The suspension has also been redesigned by German engineers to offer better handling and more comfort. There are also differences in the cargo and passenger versions, where the settings are specially optimized for better comfort or better load capacity.
Engine options include a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 75 to 115 horsepower, and gasoline options are powered by a 1.3-liter gasoline engine with 102 to 131 horsepower. The electric version of the eCitan will be available from mid-2022 and will offer about 285 km of mileage on a single charge and a fast charge of 10 to 80 percent within 40 minutes. Orders for the new Citan are accepted from mid-September with a starting price of 23,800 euros.
