After a series of videos, photos and information about one of the most long-awaited premieres at Mercedes, the German company showed its most luxurious electric car, the equivalent of the S-Klasse. Mercedes-Benz EQS debuts in two versions and a maximum mileage of 770 km on a single charge.
Starting with the design of the EQS, we can see that it has little in common with that of the S-Klasse, or at least not in appearance. The overall shape of the model is much rounder, which in turn has a positive effect on the aerodynamics, which according to the German company is the best ever achieved in a production car.
The platform on which the electric limousine is built is also completely new, but we will find out more details about it at the premiere of EQE or at least as promised by Mercedes. The length of the EQS is exactly 5265mm, which is more than that of the standard S-Klasse, but less than its extended version.
Going to the interior, there we can see the dashboard, consisting of three displays with a total size of 56 inches, which practically show and control each function of the car. All S-Klasse technologies are also available here, including a virtual reality head-up display and various assistants to assist the driver in driving.
The car is equipped with a turn of the four tires, which according to the German company provides a turning radius similar to that of the small A-Klasse. Automatic opening of the doors when you approach them is also optional, as well as automatic closing when you press the brake pedal before starting.
One of the interesting innovations that the Hyperscreen configuration with three displays offers is the viewing of movies and videos from the passenger screen. Various sensors monitor the driver’s gaze and if he looks at the passenger’s screen, it darkens. This does not only happen if the Mercedes Drive Pilot system, which practically drives itself to certain speeds, is switched on.
At first, customers will be able to choose between the EQS 450 and EQS 580 4Matic, and Mercedes is working on a version with 715 horsepower, which will most likely carry AMG emblems.
In the EQS 450 you have an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, which generates 333 horsepower and a maximum torque of 568 Newton meters, which is enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds.
The more powerful version of the EQS 580 has one electric motor, which drives the front and rear tires and provides 523 horsepower and maximum torque of 855 Newton meters. Despite weighing over 2.5 tons, acceleration to 100km / h takes 4.3 seconds.
As for the options for batteries and mileage, the company only mentions that in a configuration with a larger 107.8 kWh battery, the mileage reaches 770 km, but it is possible to order a smaller 90 kWh battery.
The maximum speed in both versions is limited to 210 km / h for better energy consumption, and Mercedes promises fast charging, which will provide 300 km mileage after a 15-minute charge.
There are no official prices for the electric vehicle yet, but the company has hinted that they will be equivalent to those of the S-Klasse, and sales will start this fall.
