Mercedes F1 Driver George Russell Takes to the Skies with the RAF Ahead of the British Grand Prix

Mercedes F1 driver George Russell has decided to take his appetite for speed to new heights ahead of this week’s British Grand Prix with the help of the Royal Air Force (RAF).

Called into 29th Squadron in Conningsby, Russell awakened his inner Maverick as he strapped himself into the cockpit of a roaring, gravity-defying RAF Typhoon fighter.

This thrilling experience gave the Mercedes F1 drivers a chance to see just how important teamwork and engineering excellence are to both the RAF and Brackley teams.

“I got the chance to fly a Typhoon fighter. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Russell wrote on social media.

“Having witnessed the teamwork, camaraderie and skill set across the RAF, I truly understand why it is such an honor to serve in the Royal Air Force.”

“Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity, teaching me so much, and of course giving me a ride!”

Such a daring and shocking experience must have given Russell a renewed sense of the relatively gentle ride of an F1 car.

Maybe the adventure was a clever ruse by Mercedes to get the adrenaline pumping for next weekend’s battle on the track. After all, a few laps at Silverstone might be a piece of cake if you can handle Typhoon fighters.

Russell’s day at the RAF will be filmed as a feature on Sky Sports F1 and will be part of the show that will be broadcast leading up to Sunday’s British Grand Prix.
