Mercedes Formula One boss Toto Wolff has given his strongest hint yet that Lewis Hamilton will stay with the team at least until the end of 2025.
The 38-year-old seven-times world champion is showing no sign of following Sebastian Vettel’s footsteps and retiring.
The British driver needs to win another title to be the only one with the record, especially since he shares this title with Michael Schumacher, who won 7 titles each.
Hamilton’s contract expires at the end of 2023, and media reports stated that a two-year contract extension is being prepared. “I spoke very early on and said Lewis will always have a seat with us, the decision will always be discussed between us,” Wolff told Auto, Motor & Sport magazine.
“Lewis will be the first to say if he’s not having fun anymore or thinks he’s slowing down,” he added.
He stressed, “Certainly we will discuss, as happened in previous years. I do not see any hints that we should change anything.”
Having dominated for years, Hamilton had to watch Red Bull’s Max Verstappen win the last two titles.
