Mercedes-Benz Unveils New eActros 600: Setting a New Standard in Road Freight Transport

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has unveiled the new eActros 600 – an electric tractor that aims to set “a new standard in road freight transport”. Slated for production late next year, the eActros 600 has a “purist design” that includes soft curves and aerodynamic shapes. Along with it, we also see a special trailer that has an underbody panel and air deflectors on the A-pillars.

The cabin has been specially made, being extended by 80mm for better aerodynamics. The tug has a load capacity of about 22 tons and is powered by three lithium-iron-phosphate batteries that provide it with a total capacity of 621 kWh. This configuration promises a range of 500km, with Mercedes noting that around 60% of their customers’ long-distance journeys are shorter than that distance.

As a result, as long as there is charging infrastructure at the loading and unloading points, customers should have no problem with mileage concerns. For companies that need to travel longer distances, Mercedes said the eActros 600 can “cover significantly more than 1,000 km per day”. In particular, drivers can charge a semi when taking their statutory breaks.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has designed the eActros 600 to have the same durability as conventional Actros long-haul trucks, and this means that the model should have no problems covering 1.2 million km in ten years of operation. The company adds that even after this period, “battery capacity should still be above 80 percent.”

The batteries power an 800-volt electric axle with two electric motors. They generate a continuous output of 536 hp. as well as a maximum output of 805 hp, which is available most of the time according to Mercedes, with almost no change in torque. The charging capacity of the eActros 600 is up to 400 kW, but the company plans to offer faster charging as well. When it becomes available, the model will be able to charge from 20 to 80% in about 30 minutes.
