Mercedes-Benz has issued an order to replace its employees’ internal combustion engine company cars with electric drive models. To accomplish this, approximately 5,000 new electric drive vehicles will be needed.
Mercedes-Benz is requiring its employees in Germany, who are entitled to company cars, to switch to all-electric models. Thus, vehicles that were previously powered by gasoline, diesel or using hybrid devices will be replaced by electric vehicles, reports Automobilwoche.
This means that models such as the C-Class, E-Class and S-Class, as well as the new CLE, GLE and GLC, will no longer be available for the company’s service fleet.
Consequently, Mercedes strengthens its decision to transition from “Electric first” to “Electric only”, keeping the course to the previously adopted strategy of selling only electrically powered vehicles from 2030.
So far, Mercedes is lagging behind the plan, which is why the company’s CEO Ole Kalenius was forced to announce this spring that the goal of reaching 50% electrified vehicles by 2025 is being postponed by a year.
