Describing its strategy for the electric future, the German giant announced that it will build eight battery plants, and from 2025 all new platforms will be for electric cars. By 2025, the development costs of internal combustion engines are expected to be “close to zero”.
However, Daimler did not set a specific deadline like other manufacturers, and the reason is that the manufacturer considers “the debate on the exact date on which we will produce the last internal combustion engine to be irrelevant.”
However, the company expects that by 2025 electric cars and plug-in hybrids will account for 50% of sales.
The announcement of the German giant comes a week after the European Union’s proposal to ban the sale of cars with internal combustion engines by 2035.
