Mercedes-Benz Introduces Turquoise Daytime Running Lights for Autonomous Cars in Nevada and California

Daytime running lights are in the vast majority of cases white, exceptionally on American roads you will encounter orange ones. In the foreseeable future in the US – specifically in Nevada and California – one more color will be added, and that is turquoise.

Drivers there will see it on Mercedes-Benz cars if this car drives itself, not controlled by a human driver. Cars will be marked with turquoise lights in the front, rear and side mirrors. The car manufacturer chose this color because nothing else on the roads shines anyway.

At the same time, it will not be a test operation under the control of the car company, but rather production cars. Mercedes-Benz has received approval for Level 3 autonomous driving on public roads in these two states.

These will be the S-Class and EQS equipped with the optional Drive Pilot semi-autonomous driving system, allowing them to drive without the need for a human driver’s attention behind the wheel up to 40 mph (64 km/h).

People behind the wheels of these cars will be able to stop following the road and let go of the steering wheel if Drive Pilot is active. However, they must be prepared to take over driving, for example in bad weather, when the system does not know how to drive.
