The carmaker in Munich is exhibiting a new concept called the Concept EQG, which is said to be not far from the production version of the purely electric G-Class.

The purely electric version of the iconic Merceces-Benz G-Class offroad has been talked about practically since the premiere of its only second generation, which took place in 2018. The Concept EQG introduced today should be almost a pre-production version of the future EQG and a vision of how electric class G look.
At the same time, even the emission-free Gčko did not lose its iconic box-like appearance, nor its robust technology. The basis is still a robust frame on which the body is mounted. There is an independent suspension at the front and a rigid axle at the rear.

The body has given up on any aerodynamic optimizations that other manufacturers are trying to drive up. Gčko thus still has square shapes with the aerodynamics of a flying brick and raised handles, hinges and turn signals. The aerodynamic effect is perhaps only the design of the wheels, which is at the same time stylistically retro – like the whole G-Class.
The radiator grille is closed, given the traditional graphics of electric models, an illuminated frame and is lined on the sides with round headlights with daylight. The motif of illuminated circles then also appears on the mirrors, while on the roof there is a carrier with an additional light ramp. Additional LED lighting is built into the side protection strips of the body, in the rear part of the roof rack there is a third brake light and there is also a storage box replacing the reserve, where there can be, for example, charging cables.

The carmaker has not yet revealed the technical parameters of the concept, but it should be powered by four electric motors installed close to the wheels. Each electric motor should be able to operate independently, which should give the electric G-piece a unique driving characteristic. In addition, the propulsion system should have two gears, which probably indicates the possibility of reduction for demanding terrain situations.
However, it should be noted that the Concept EQG is still just a pre-production concept, on which much will obviously change. So far, it is not even certain when the purely electric G-Class will be produced, but according to the carmaker, this will be preceded by demanding tests. The electric EQG will have to handle the same challenges as combustion class G.
