Mercedes-Benz, Audible, and Amazon Music Collaborate for In-Vehicle Dolby Atmos Audio Storytelling

At CES 2024, Mercedes-Benz, Audible and Amazon Music announced a unique collaboration. Together they usher in a new era for in-vehicle audio storytelling. In addition to music, Mercedes-Benz customers can also listen to podcasts, audio books and games in Dolby Atmos for the first time. The occupants are surrounded by comprehensive sound with exceptionally multidimensional space and clarity. They sit at the center of the story being told.

Integration von Dolby Atmos

The basis of the collaboration is the integration of the immersive audio experience Dolby Atmos into the Burmester 4D and 3D surround sound system. Both systems are optionally available in Mercedes-Benz vehicles with the latest MBUX infotainment system. By integrating Audible and Amazon Music apps into MBUX, customers gain instant access to an ever-growing selection of audiobooks, originals, podcasts and music in Dolby Atmos. A subscription to these providers is required. Audible and Amazon Music subscribers can also access the entire catalog of both streaming services. Your favorite author, podcast host or musician can be heard so intensely that it feels as if they were sitting in the vehicle. This is audio storytelling that has never been experienced in a vehicle before.

Launching in the third quarter of 2024

With more than 850,000 audiobooks, podcasts and Audible Originals, Audible is the leading developer and provider of premium audio content – and the ultimate storyteller for millions of people around the world. The company offers dozens of titles in Dolby Atmos. The growing offering enables listeners to experience more and more stories in the highest level of detail, depth and clarity. These include blockbusters narrated by world-class actors – for example “The Sandman Act III”, the reinterpretation of classics like “David Copperfield” and immersive natural soundscapes in “The Healing Power of Nature”.

The introduction will start in the third quarter via an over-the-air update (OTA) in the new E-Class and the new CLE Coupé and Cabriolet, which feature the third-generation MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system. Further implementation is planned for the successor models in the future. Amazon Music in Dolby Atmos is available in models with second generation MBUX produced since December 2023. Customers with Audible and Amazon Music accounts can access both apps and their respective content in Dolby Atmos.
