Mercedes-AMG has set a new record with its GT 4-Door 63 S 4Matic +. At the Nürburgring, the Germans set the fastest lap time in the executive class.
AMG developer Demian Schaffert took seven minutes and 27.80 seconds to complete the 20.83 km long circuit lap. An officially recognized record time. With this, the Mercedes surpasses the Porsche Panamera Turbo S which needed 7: 29.81 to round the legendary circuit.
2021 version
The previous lap time of the GT 4-Door Coupé – also eliminated by Schaffert – was 2.3 seconds slower. This while the 2018 version has 9 more horses under the hood. The version with which the track record was set is standard, as it has been in production since September. The car only had adjustments for safety: bucket seats with a four-point belt, different tires: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and an optional aero package.
Anything but optimal
Although it is an insane lap time for such a large four-door coupé, Mercedes-AMG thinks it can be even faster. “The conditions were anything but optimal,” they say. The air temperature was 7 ° C and there were some wet areas on the track.
Even more power

This one bears the name GT 73 and gets a full power of +/- 800 hp. This power comes from a 4.0-liter V8 petrol engine with two turbos assisted by an electric motor. However, the car will gain a few kilos due to the battery pack …

About the track
In 2018, we took the large four-door coupé on the Formula 1 circuit in Austin, Texas. With its 639 hp V8 biturbo, the two-ton AMG pulls to 100 in 3.2 seconds. Whether this exorbitant car competed with the Porsche Panamera we see in this review:
