German Mercedes-AMG in Shanghai, at the Formula-1 championship event, showed its flagship of the GT family, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E-Performance coupe, equipped with an 816 hp hybrid engine.
The AMG GT 63 S E-Performance hybrid unit includes a 612 hp 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine spinning the wheels of the front axle and a 150 kW (204 hp) Electric Drive Unit at the rear axle. The power generated by the electric motor is sent to the rear wheels via a two-speed transmission and a locking differential, but the electric motor can assist the front wheels if necessary.

The total power of the hybrid system is 816 hp, and the maximum torque – up to 1460 Nm – enough to reach 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds and continue to accelerate to 320 km / h. Controlling this power is aided by the AMG Active Ride Control active suspension with roll control and active rear wheel steering. The 6.1 kWh battery serves more as a drive transmitter than for driving with electricity, however, it takes up to 13 kilometers in electric mode. This battery can be charged with alternating current using the built-in 3.7 kW charger at the charging station, at the wall box or at a household outlet. The driver can influence the operation of the recovery system (4 levels), recovering up to 100 kW at the strongest level with the help of One-Pedal technology.

The manufacturer claims that the AMG GT 63 S E-Performance consumes 12.6 kWh and 8.6 liters of fuel per 100 km, and 12.3 liters of fuel per 100 km when the battery is empty.
The driver has eight AMG Dynamic Select driving programs “Electric”, “Battery Hold”, “Comfort”, “Smoothness”, “Sport”, “Sport +”, “Race” and “Individual”, which allows to change the response of the drive and the transmission, the operation of the steering gear and the chassis, change the timbre of sound coming from the exhaust system. Programs can be selected with the AMG button and the central display in the center console or the buttons located on the steering wheel. Depending on the mode chosen, the active aerodynamic elements at the front flow up to 40 mm down and increase or decrease strength, and the rear spoiler, which locks in the five different angles, doing the same thing.

The driver starts every time in silent mode and comfort mode – when the car moves with the help of an electric motor, but the driver can see feedback on the display and see it acoustically, thanks to the sound which flows into the cabin through the speakers of the audio system.
The price of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E-Performance has not been disclosed, but the technically similar Performance SL 63 SE is asking for 223,720 euros.
